Lauren O’Connell is a curator and writer focusing on modern and contemporary art, architecture, and design. Formerly, she worked at the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) where she focused on the development of new exhibitions, including the inaugural exhibition Architecture of Life (2016) in the new Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed building, Andy Warhol: Still Lifes and Portraits (2016), AMERICA AMERICA: Art for Human Rights (2017), and the performance-based exhibition Asher Hartman and Cliff Hengst / MATRIX 264 (2017). Prior to BAMPFA, O’Connell worked at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. She co-curated the exhibition Many Places at Once (2014) at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts and was the co-editor of its publication. O’Connell has organized several new commissions by artists such as Qiu Zhijie, Martin Soto Climent, Li Ran, Rana Hamadeh, Jean Shin, Jay Atherton, and Real Time and Space. She received a M.A. in curatorial practice from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and a B.A. in Classics and Art History from the University of Arizona, Tucson.
